Three Lyon County roads remain barricaded after recent flooding.
*Road H-5 from Roads 215 to 225
*Road J from Roads 190 to 215 (also Prairie Street starting at 30th Avenue)
*Road 215 from Roads F-5 to J-7
All four roads will likely remain closed until at least Tuesday, given the Memorial Day weekend is underway.
Two area reservoirs are continuing above-normal releases at this time. The Council Grove Reservoir is releasing just under 1,500 cubic feet per second with the lake nine feet above normal levels. John Redmond Reservoir is up to 3,800 cubic feet per second with the lake now almost 11 feet above normal.
The forecast calls for more rainfall Sunday afternoon through Memorial Day, which — in addition to bringing anywhere from half an inch to 1.5 inches of rain to the area, with higher totals west of Emporia — may mean some tough decisions for organizers of Memorial Day activities. Emporia’s Memorial Day service is tentatively set for 9:30 am at the All Veterans Memorial, but the ceremony could move to the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Regardless, organizer Ron Whitney says part of the proceedings will include a recognition of the All Veterans Memorial’s anniversary.
Other aspects of the ceremony include a tribute to veterans of all wars, a memorial roll call, salute to departed comrades and Taps.
Whitney will have the official word on the memorial service’s location during Monday’s Newsmaker segment at 7:15 am. We’ll keep you updated on schedule adjustments as needed, and if you need to have an adjustment announced, call KVOE at 620-342-1400 or email kvoe@kvoe.com.
