With an offsite voting event now in the rear-view mirror, attention turns to the in-office advance voting period inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
The process began Monday morning and continues 8 am to 5 pm weekdays until noon Nov. 1, the day before the general election. County Clerk Tammy Vopat says it’s an easy process.
In-office advance voting follows Lyon County’s offsite voting event at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building that saw almost 140 residents cast their ballots.
Also underway since last week is the process where residents wanting a mail ballot can get one — if they apply by Oct. 26. Vopat says residents can either go to the Courthouse, call the Lyon County Election Office at 620-341-3245 to request a ballot or go online to www.lyoncounty.org, find Election Office under the Government drop-down tab and click on the “mail ballot application” link.
Vopat says this is an important election because of the local nature of the races — mayor, City Council, City Commission and school board. In Lyon County, voters are also being asked to extend a one-percent sales tax 15 years to benefit a range of projects at the city and county level. Chase County voters are being asked to decide if liquor sales by the drink can be allowed in public places without any requirement that some of the gross receipts come from food sales. Osage County voters are asked to decide on a new law enforcement facility.
