ONGOING ACTIVITIES/EVENTS

TALLGRASS PRAIRIE NATIONAL PRESERVE

Winter hours at the Preserve run from November 1, through April 30, 2015.

The Visitor's Center is open daily from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The Lower Fox Creek one-room school house will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nature and Hiking Trails are open 24 hours a day.

COFFEE, CHAT & RESTORATION AT PIONEER BLUFFS

Volunteers work at Pioneer Bluffs Historic Farm on the first Saturday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Lunch is provided. Work is done to preserve the site.

Pioneer Bluffs is open to the public in spring, summer and fall from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Fri, Sat, Sun and Monday. During winter months the site is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays only. Pioneer Bluffs is always open by appointment.

Rooted deeply in the pioneering spirit of the past, today's pioneers are preserving history, respecting the land, and engaging community at Pioneer Bluffs.
 

Pioneer Bluffs is a nonprofit 501c3 organization that runs on "volunteer power" and donations. Join us on the first Saturday of every month at 8:30 a.m. for coffee, chat, and restoration. FARMER’S MARKET

The Winter Emporia Farmer’s Market is held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from November through April. 10 a.m. - Noon Nov. through April. It is located in the Humanitarian Center, 215 West 6th. For information call 620-343-6555.

 

FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH CLOTHES CLOSET

Get good used clothing at affordable prices at the First Christian Church “Clothes Closet” 202 E. 12th. Hours are 3-6 PM every Friday and every Saturday morning from 9 AM – Noon. For more information call 342-1582. 

 

HISTORIC HOWE HOUSE & WELSH FARMSTEAD

Located at 315 East Logan Avenue, the Howe House is on the register of historic places.  Built in 1867 by a Welsh immigrant stonemason is open to group tours by appointment. Just call 620-340-6310.

Take a stroll along the new Prairie Patch walking nature trail, which connects the Howe House to the Emporia Zoo

 

OLDER KANSANS EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

The Older Kansans Employment Program invites seniors to have coffee and meet other job-seekers, as well as hear motivational speakers every Tuesday at the Emporia Senior Center on East 12th at 9:30 AM.

 

ABUNDANT HARVEST MEALS

Abundant Harvest serves meals Mon-Thurs. at the Abundant Harvest Food Kitchen, 1028 Whittier, evenings at 5:30. There is no charge and all are welcome. If you would like to volunteer, call Jennifer at 342-7439.

 

FRIENDSHIP MEALS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Do you have an hour to spare at least once a week? Friendship Meals need volunteer drivers to deliver noon meals to shut-in seniors. Delivery time is usually 10:30 a.m - 11:30 a.m  Mileage is reimbursed. Call Terry for information.
