USD 253 Emporia started its interview process for superintendent with a familiar face leading off that effort.
USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright is having his formal interview with the USD 253 Board of Education. Before that, he met via Zoom with local media. He says he’s at a time in his career where a larger district is of interest. He says his past experience with bond initiatives, classroom work, athletics and other aspects of education — including education redesign — fit well with what Emporia is doing and plans to do.
Argabright is in his 15th year as USD 252 superintendent. Before that, he served as Eureka Junior-Senior High principal for 16 years and an assistant principal and athletic director for three years. He was a finalist and interviewed for the position in 2016 shortly before one-time Inman superintendent Kevin Case was selected. Case resigned suddenly this past November, triggering the current search.
Finalists were chosen after input from community members and district focus groups on the best characteristics for the district moving forward. USD 253 board members have another interview Monday afternoon and a third Tuesday morning. Once this process is done, the board will have two executive sessions at noon Tuesday before its regular meeting at 5:30 pm Wednesday. The district has not said when it plans to announce its choice for superintendent.
