Job Description: Engineering Layout Designer

 

Engineering Layout Designer Job Purpose: The individual’s primary responsibility will be to develop and incorporate simple to complex new mechanisms for custom machinery and existing equipment. Prepares custom quotes and assists in training, coordinating, and coordinating job activities in the Engineering Department

 

Engineering Layout Designer Job Duties:

• Designs and engineers mechanisms for new products and equipment. Collects information on marketplace need, and conducts market research on new products. Evaluates new designs and tests actual operation of equipment.  Performs some rework if necessary on original designs.

• Produces sketches for detailers, sales and service personnel. Produces clear and exact computer aided drawings for manufacturing using Solid Works. Inspects and verifies accuracy of information on detail and assembly drawings.

• Draw and detail new machine parts and/or revisions to existing drawings using Solid Works or CadKey Engineering design software.

• Engineers improvements on equipment for sale across all product lines. Consults with service, manufacturing, and the Chief Operating Officer on needed improvements. Researches, tests, and produces drawings of improvements. Initiates immediate change requests made by manufacturing.

• Performs calculations on machines, such as speed of belts and chains, angles and bolt hole patterns, in real time and machine time.

• Researches and designs custom machines. Reviews mechanical possibilities, produces assembly drawings or designs bills of material. Writes purchase requisitions for parts and follows up on status of purchase requisition and project development. Inspects and tests custom product of proper operation. Trains service technicians on operation of non-standard machines.

• Provides technical assistance for engineering and other related Company personnel.

• Communicates with Company management on status of assigned projects.

• Develop drawings and accurate directions for field retrofits. Designs electrical circuits or controls for machines.  Consults with manufacturing engineer and machine operators about capabilities of custom machines.

• Maintain a safe, neat and orderly work area.

 

Skills/Qualifications:

• High School diploma or a GED equivalent is Required.

• Technical Training and 3-5 years experience in mechanical and/or electrical systems design is strongly preferred.

• Self-motivated with a proven track record in employment attendance and reliability.

• Must be able to communicate professionally both verbally and in written responses to emails, bill of material reports and other internal reports and meetings as required.

• Ability to work with a diverse employment base.

• Ability to work independently and complete assignments timely according to standard procedure and/or instruction.
