Investigation continues into fatal series of crashes near Topeka

It may be Monday before authorities divulge more information about how an Allen woman was hurt and a currently unnamed person was killed in a series of accidents near the Shawnee-Osage county line Friday night.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority says 55-year-old Patricia Stark of Allen was northbound when the crash happened about 10 miles south of Topeka shortly after 6:15 pm. Stark's car hit a second vehicle which earlier had struck the center median and came to rest in the passing lane.

Some time around then, a tractor-trailer came to the crash site, striking and killing a pedestrian according to the Topeka Capitol-Journal. Two other vehicles reportedly crashed at or near that location as well before 9 pm. The Turnpike Authority has not released information yet on those aspects of the incident.
