Delane Drive toy drop brings in 62 bags of gifts for local children

This year's Delane Drive toy drop was another success. Over the weekend, residents of Delane, Darlene, Diane and Hillcrest streets collected 62 bags of toys, including 8 bicycles (including one full-sized mountain bike), 3 trikes, one big-wheel and 3 scooters.

Last year saw only 51 bags of toys. This year SOS will be receiving a check for $843, and the toys will be sent both to SOS and the Salvation Army. Event spokesman Damon Leiss says Emporia is a very generous community.

Also, he says he didn't see the man who always donates bicycles, but Leiss says he's sure that he stopped by.

The drive and holiday light show has been a fixture of Delane, Darlene, Diane and Hillcrest streets since the early 1980s.
