A wind chill warning remains in effect for Lyon and surrounding counties until 12pm Monday. Wind chill values are forecasted to drop as low as -25 below to -31 below zero.
According to the National Weather Service, these dangerous wind chills can cause frost bite within minutes. Avoid being outside for a prolonged period, place pets inside, and carry an emergency kit for your car. According to the NWS, Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning will feel like 10 to 20 degrees below zero as strong northerly winds and cold temperatures linger.
This brutal cold snap comes after light snowfall fell in the KVOE listening area. The KVOE studios saw 1.5 inches, with Emporia seeing an average of 2 inches. Osage City saw the most at 2.3 inches.
