Former Kansas Congressman and current CIA Director Mike Pompeo is being tapped by President Donald Trump to become the next Secretary of State.
The President made the announcement Tuesday morning on Twitter after ousting Rex Tillerson.
ABC News reports that Trump asked Tillerson to step aside Friday according to a White House official. Trump spoke to reporters Tuesday morning.
The State Department says Trump never spoke to Tillerson about the decision.
Gina Haspel has been named as Pompeo's replacement at the CIA. She would become the first woman to serve in that capacity.
Both Pompeo and Haspel require Senate confirmation. Pompeo served Kansas' 4th Congressional District from 2011 to 2017.
