ESU announces civil rights movie series

Martin Luther King, Jr., Day is Monday, and over the coming month Emporia State University is introducing four documentaries to bring to life America's civil rights history.


*"Freedom Riders" will be shown at 6 pm Jan. 23 at the Memorial Union Preston Family Room.
*"The Loving Story" will take place off campus -- 6 pm Jan. 29 at the Emporia Public Library.
*"The Abolitionists" is next. That movie will screen Feb. 6 at the Memorial Union Preston Family Room.
*"Slavery by Another Name" screens Feb. 13 at the ESU White Library Learning Commons.

The movie series is part of "Created Equal: America's Civil Rights Struggle" through the National Endowment for the Humanities. It also marks the 50th anniversary of King's March on Washington.

ESU is one of over 470 colleges and universities showing the series.
