Economic development topics go before City Commission

Economic development matters will highlight the Emporia City Commission study meeting Wednesday.

Commissioners will have the first public presentation on Emporia Pavilions, a development which could bring a home improvement store, grocery and sit-down restaurants to 24th and Industrial. Kansas City developer Spencer Thomson will outline his request for nearly $9 million in tax increment financing, which he says will go to land improvements before construction of the actual development.

Commissioners will also discuss the U.S. Highway 50 access management plan for determining how many entrances off the highway between Road "F" and Americus Road as well as other potential traffic issues.

Also, commissioners will review the 2013 budget and look at potential candidates for the 2014 street rehabilitation project.

The meeting starts at 9:30 am at White Auditorium City Conference Room 1 AB.

Lyon County commissioners are holding an action session only this week. That will be held at 8 am Thursday in the County Courthouse. The agenda should be released Tuesday.
