Emporia fire/EMS crews responded to a report of an injury accident on the Kansas Turnpike Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred shortly after 1pm near mile marker 101, about 26 miles southwest of Emporia. 68-year old Shirley Storhohann of Reinbeck, Iowa, was traveling southbound in the left-hand lane, when she hit the barrier wall for unknown reasons. Storhohann's 2012 Honda van then crossed both lanes of traffic and struck the rock wall on the opposite side.
Storhohann was transported to Newman Regional Health with very minor injuries, according to Fire Captain Rick Peck. Peck said Storhohann couldn't remember why she left the roadway, but the accident could have been much worse. Storhohann's husband, whose name is not known, was not injured.
The KTA and Kansas Highway Patrol also worked the accident. Peck said the difficulty with this accident was the mileage covered by emergency crews, totaling 31 miles from the crash scene to the hospital.
