The Emporia Recreation Commission had a relatively quick meeting Monday. The commission approved the usage fees for Jones Field at Soden's Grove.
Director Tom McEvoy said the new field has already garnered interest, as he was approached by Ottawa University to use it in February -- while snow was still on the field.
The new fees are: $50 per game, $100 per game with lights, and $25 for two hours of practice. McEvoy says those prices are comparable to Trusler Sports Complex, cheaper than many surrounding communities, and that those prices reflect the cost of wear-and-tear.
In other business, McEvoy gave an update on the fitness room and exercise studio renovation. Emig and Associates is handling the design, and McEvoy said they are still working on drawings and engineering details.
Commissioners also got an update on the travel programs at ERC, and the schedule for this weekend's club soccer tournament. The Lunch Bunch and day trip programs have grown significantly, and now requires a much larger vehicle to transport everyone. The next day trip scheduled is on April 5th, to the Salt Mine and Cosmosphere in Hutchinson.
The Emporia Soccer Academy will be hosting regional club soccer games this season, starting this Saturday. The first game will be at 11:30am, at Emporia Soccer Field #1. Around 500 kids are registered for spring soccer this season.
