Numerous wind advisories affect area

Brace yourself for a windy day Wednesday.

Literally. Brace yourself.

A powerful storm system is bringing us two days of high winds along with the chance of showers and storms. Four separate wind advisories affect the KVOE listening area just for Wednesady. Lyon, Morris and Wabaunsee counties are in one advisory from 10 am to 9 pm. Chase County is in an advisory from 10 am to 10 pm. Coffey and Osage counties are covered by an advisory from noon to 9 pm, with Greenwood County in an advisory from noon to 10 pm.

Area residents had picked up a little moisture from snowfall Monday, but that will dry out rapidly -- meaning the fire danger will once again be very high for the area. Outdoor burning will be strongly discouraged again Wednesday. Undersheriff John Koelsch urges people who conducted planned burns recently to check those areas frequently and call immediately if something rekindles.

Wind speeds back off, but only gradually. Winds could be as high as 40 mph Wednesday night and 35 mph Thursday.
