Walk MS brings hope to patients

Emporia's Walk MS brought nearly 100 walkers to Flinthills Mall on Saturday.

Multiple sclerosis is an abnormal response to the body's immune systems with a wide range of symptoms, attacking the central nervous system to the point where the body stops moving. Emporian Andy Kuhn already knew of the disease well before he was diagnosed over three years ago. His sister contracted MS in the 1970s.

MS patient Patricia Smitheran of Council Grove appreciated the turnout as well as the work researchers are doing to fight the disease.

Eighty percent of the funds raised today will go into research. The rest is split between holding other walks and family help.
