Hetlinger Developmental Services is having its spring aluminum can recycling special from 9 am to noon. Hetlinger is paying 50 cents a pound and recyclers bringing in at least 50 pounds get a free T-shirt.

U.S. Senate candidate and current Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor will be at the Lyon County Courthouse Annex as the featured speaker for the Lyon County Democrats monthly meeting Saturday. The meeting is at 10 am.

Local letter carriers are making special pickups all day Saturday for the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive benefiting the Salvation Army food pantry. Postal worker Janet Way was a guest on the Talk of Emporia this week and said local postal patrons will receive a blue grocery bag along with a post card in their mail this week.  If you wish to contribute, put non-perishable food items in the bag and leave it on your porch or by the front door and a volunteer will pick it up Saturday. Way said rural route customers and apartment dwellers can also participate.
