Child Care Q&A to provide answers for parents

Need child care for your youngsters but don't know how to find the best facility -- or what questions to ask?

Child Care Aware and the Flint Hills Community Health Center-Lyon County Health Department are teaming up to give parents looking at day care options for their children some important information with the summer months ahead.

A special Child Care Q&A will be held at the Emporia Public Library from 6:30 to 8 pm Tuesday. Lyon County Child Care Surveyor Mary Sutton says parents can be uncomfortable when they start looking at potential day care facilities. She says there are several things parents have to consider when checking out a facility.

Sutton says Lyon County's day care providers are, by and large, top-notch because a push two years to make all child care facilities licensed has led to additional professional development opportunities for providers. Beforehand, child care providers could be registered without the rigors of state licensure.

For information, call the Health Center-Health Department at 342-4864. You can also go online to www.flinthillshealth.org or www.childcareaware.org.
