Six area residents, including an Emporia woman, are hospitalized at Anderson County in Garnett after an SUV hit a tree head-on near Richmond late Friday night.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says 30-year-old Trista Brown was traveling near Richmond when failed to slow down at an uncontrolled T-intersection. Brown drove her SUV through the intersection and hit the tree.

Brown and all five passengers -- 12-year-old Isaac Brown of LeRoy, 4-year-old Aliyah Brown of LeRoy, 5-year-old Jordon Brown of LeRoy, 8-year-old Ashton Brown of LeRoy and 9-year-old Jake Brown of LeRoy -- were taken to Anderson County Hospital in Garnett for observation and treatment. Their conditions have not been released. Trista Brown was the only person in the vehicle not wearing a seat belt.
