A week from Saturday, the fifth annual KVOE-Bruffs Steak Challenge will raise money for Emporia Child Care.
Organizer Joe Endres is encouraging area residents to participate. On KVOE's Morning Show on Thursday, Endres outlined the rules -- and there aren't many.
The entire contest is done by 2 pm, so it's not an all-day affair. Entries are judged by taste, tenderness and appearnce, and the winner receives $300.
Child Care Director Deb Crowl says the money will help the child care network move from several locations across town to the former National Teachers Hall of Fame Building at 1320 C of E Drive.
Over $400,000 is already in the bank. Funds from here will set the stage to create the preschool center areas.
The Steak Challenge has raised over $6,000 for various charities, including the United Way, Plumb Place and Emporia Child Care.
Cost is $100 to participate, and you can have unlimited team members. For information and entry forms, go to www.KVOE.com.
