Olpe Downhome celebrates community, park enhancements

Olpe Downhome celebrated 12 years of activities -- and improvements to Jones Park -- with the annual three-day celebration this weekend.

Organizer Garry Wilson says it's gratifying to see people from all over come to Olpe, in some cases scheduling their vacations or reunions so they can attend the town festival. He says the fundraising aspect of Olpe Downhome is a well-kept secret outside of the city limits.

Next up for Olpe Jones Park is a spray park facility.

A host of family activities were on the schedule, which made resident Crystal Monk happy.

Activities started Friday with a youth rodeo. Saturday was a big day, with a softball tournament, drug dog demonstration, pie baking contest, Downhome Challenge and the Olpe Fire Department barbecue fundraiser. On Sunday, there's a fishing tournament and disc golf tourney.
