KLINK project timeframe outlined

Local road construction projects are picking up speed in the coming days.

As we told you this week, Burlington Northern Santa Fe is repairing two of the three tracks at the Commercial Street intersection. Work begins Friday and will continue through Monday, based on the current schedule.

Starting Monday, separate crews will begin work on Emporia's annual Konnecting Link, or K-LINK, program. Work will in two locations, U.S. Highway 50 from Constitution to Commercial and on Commercial from Kansas Avenue to the south city limits near Soden's Grove.

Work will begin in central downtown first, with concrete work for sidewalks, handicapped ramps and curbing as part of the project. Things shift to south central Emporia after that. Shoulder work on K-99 is also planned.

Work should be completed shortly after Labor Day.
