Lunar Kanza takes 200 cyclists out into Flint Hills under full moon

Close to 200 cyclists enjoyed a ride into the Flint Hills as part of the first Lunar Kanza event Saturday night.

Enjoying himself was Tom Andrews of Emporia, who rode with his wife, Rachel.

The Andrews family was among a large percentage of riders who had participated in some of the Dirty Kanza races in past years. They both did the half-pint 100 two years ago, and Tom Andrews did the half-pint last year.

Organizers of the Dirty Kanza in years past, like Kristy Mohn, had nothing but positive things to say about the more leisurely ride.

Event organizers say the second Lunar Kanza could add a hundred riders or more next year. Riders came from the area as well as the Kansas City metro and Stillwater, Okla. One rider registered from as far away as Cleveland, Ohio.
