Smith returns for All Veterans Tribute concert

Granger Smith rocked out the Granada Theatre on Thursday.

Smith -- and his alter ego, Earl Dibbles, Jr. -- brought his fusion of country and rock to the Granada for the second time this year. It was his first time playing for Emporia's All Veterans Tribute, but it's not his first time playing for veterans.

Smith also participates in a 100-mile "boot walk" annually from Austin to Fort Hood, Texas to raise money for the Boot Campaign, which helps combat soldiers have a smoother transition when they get home. His boot walk this spring raised $20,000.

All Veterans Tribute is steaming towards the finish next week:

Friday: Veterans Show Off Your Talent Show at Albert Taylor Hall, 6 pm.
Saturday: Quilts of Valor presentation at the American Legion, 11 am;  Veterans Recognition ceremonies during the Emporia State-Northwest Missouri football game at Welch Stadium, 1 pm.
Sunday: Freedom Fest at the All Veterans Memorial, registration begins at 7 am;  student essay-poster contest at Emporia Middle School, 2 pm.
Veterans Day: Parade along Commercial Street, 9:30 am; memorial service at the All Veterans Memorial, 11 am; ham and bean feeds at the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, noon.
