BNSF track work near Emporia part of $125 million improvement plan in Kansas

Burlington Northern Santa Fe has a lot of work planned across Kansas, and some of that includes work in and around Emporia.

Spokesman Andy Williams tells KVOE News track work will start soon between Strong City and Hutchinson. Additional track work, including ballast, ties and rails, is planned from Emporia east to Gardner and also west all the way to Garden City.

The work will take place periodically through the year as Burlington Northern Santa Fe plans to invest some $125 million in improvements just in Kansas this year. BNSF says it has invested over $700 million in Kansas since 2013.

Overall, the railroad plans to invest $3.4 billion across the country in 2017. Maintaining and replacing the railroad's core network, including track and rolling stock, are the key capital investment projects this year.
