BNSF train hits company recycling trailer just west of Emporia

A train and truck collided just west of Emporia on Monday.


No injuries were reported after the collision at Road G shortly after 11 am.


Lyon County Deputy James Baker says a pickup was pulling a trailer, but an unspecified malfunction resulted in the trailer unhooking from the truck and getting stuck on the crossing. The driver, Cody Kerbs of Emporia, and passenger Willie Williams tried unsuccessfully to move the trailer before getting out of the way.


The trailer was owned by Green Door Recycling and is a total loss. The train engine suffered minor damage.

No injuries have been reported after a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train collided with a truck near Emporia on Monday.
