Brull: Grass fire causes no damage to Baker Bridge near Americus

Traffic is back to normal for a 100-year-old bridge near Americus.

The bridge on Road 270 just south of B was shut down from Nov. 27 until this past Wednesday after a grass fire. Assistant County Engineer Jim Brull says the bridge was closed as a precautionary measure until BG Consultants could inspect the bridge and finish its reports.

The concrete arch bridge has a maximum load capacity of 30 tons. It was set for inspection as part of the county's biannual bridge inspection process early next year. Brull says the fire caused no significant damage besides what had been noted in the last inspection last year.
