Business of Year, Lifetime Achievement winner announced

The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce has started naming its award recipients before its annual meeting later this month.

Kari's Diamonds and Bridal has been named the 2016 Business of the Year. Kari's began as a small diamond store in July 2009. At the time, there was only one employee, but Chamber President and CEO Jeanine McKenna said owner Kari Stookey has done a great job in meeting customer demands and community needs.

The business grew to add tuxedo rental, formal wear and bridal wear, eventually moving from its original location on West Sixth to its current address at 1015 Industrial. The business has also been extremely active in community causes.

Meanwhile, Bobbie Agler has been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. A former mayor and Emporia city commissioner, Agler has also served on numerous boards and been involved with several philanthropic activities like Emporia State's Now & Forever fundraising campaign.
