Buying a Christmas Tree can support area youth projects

The Flint Hills Optimist Club Christmas tree sale has started again at the Guion's Showcase parking lot.

The Optimist Club has been selling Christmas trees for decades as a method to raise money for youth. Here's organizer Bob Burenheide:

The Optimist Club has been holding the sale for roughly 50 years. Organizers noted that in years past they would order a thousand trees, but recent years only order 500. The trees themselves come from Wisconsin, roughly 650 miles from Emporia.

Live Canadian balsam, Fraser fir, white pine and Scotch pine trees are available along with wreaths and garland. Trees range in height from 3 to 9 feet.

Normal hours will be 5 to 8:30 pm weekdays, 10 am to 5 pm Saturdays and 1 to 6 pm Sundays.
