Car-deer wreck on Turnpike near Admire exit hurts Topeka woman

A Topeka woman was hurt in a car-deer crash on the Kansas Turnpike in northeastern Lyon County on Saturday.

The Turnpike Authority says 49-year-old Michelle Johnston crashed around 7 am near mile marker 143, or four miles southwest of the Admire-Council Grove exit and 16 miles northeast of the Emporia tollgate. Johnston was southbound and couldn't avoid a deer that began crossing the highway.

Johnston told on-site inestigators she planned to seek her own treatment. The Turnpike Authority has not said where she planned to go.

Johnston was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. She was the only person in the car.
