Carbondale man airlifted for care after 3-vehicle crash

A three-vehicle crash early Thursday sent an Osage County man to a Topeka hospital for treatment.

The Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the crash, which happened on US Highway 75 just north of 189th Street -- almost directly between Carbondale and Lyndon -- around 6:40 am. According to the Highway Patrol crash log, a van driven by 47-year-old Michael Finton of Carbondale and a semi driven by 22-year-old Joshua Paul Riggles of Mayetta were both southbound while an SUV driven by 51-year-old Delbert Ramsey of Lyndon was northbound. Riggles had stopped to turn east onto 189th but Finton didn't notice until it was too late, crashing first into the semi and then into Ramsey's SUV.

Finton, the only person hurt in the crash, was airlifted to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka for treatment. His condition has not been released.

All involved were wearing seat belts when the crash happened.
