The transaction makes Cargill the only national supplier of both animal feed and pet food offerings in the agricultural retail space. Pro-Pet has more than 150 employees at three pet food manufacturing facilities in Kansas, Minnesota and Ohio.
Cargill Feed and Nutrition president Pilar Cruz said in a release "Pro-Pet's commitment to high-quality, safe pet food and passion for the pet food business is the perfect fit for our Cargill Animal Nutrition business."
Cargill Animal Nutrition communications director Tim Loesch tells KVOE News the acquisition will have no impact on the Emporia facility. In a statement, Loesch says "We are looking to grow our pet business and add production capacity and proximity to existing strategic customers to better meet their growth needs within pet food, a top-growing category amongst strategic agricultural retailers."
Currently, Cargill operates 50 animal feed production and distribution facilities across the U.S. including Emporia. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
