Casey Bess sentencing set for May 1 after assault plea

An Emporia man accused of pointing a gun at a woman as she held an infant child has offered a plea in the case.


Casey Wayne Bess, age 30, pleaded to a single count of aggravated assault with a firearm on Friday. He had been charged with single counts of aggravated assault, domestic battery and misdemeanor child endangerment.


Emporia Police had arrested Bess on Nov. 14 after an altercation in the 1100 block of Woodland. The incident allegedly started with an argument between Bess and a woman, continued with physical contact and culminated with a threat from Bess to the woman who was holding a baby during the altercation.


Sentencing will be held at 11 am May 1.
