Emporia City Commission begins crafting of new goals

Goals are being put together by Emporia City Commissioners who met Wednesday night to brainstorm some of their plans moving forward.

The study session, held at the Water Treatment Plant, was facilitated by Ron Leupp with Growth Strategies of Wichita. The city attempts to a goal setting session following each election. Discussion included everything from achieving economic development, looking for government efficiency and improving quality of life. Commissioner Danny Giefer says the dialog created by the meeting is valuable.

Among the topics Leupp suggested the commission consider was modernization as a mobilizing key to attract and retain young people in the community, especially Emporia State students. Assistant City Manager Lane Massey says with an aging baby boomer population, it creates new avenues for staff to explore.
