A sold-out crowd witnessed history during Friday's annual Flint Hills Technical College Foundation Gala.

While final numbers are still being calculated, this year's auction and benefit raised more than $110,000. Vice President of Advancement Mike Crouch says it's another banner year for student scholarships.

Much of the attention Friday, was centered on the culinary arts department. In addition to catering a delicious meal for attendees, they also learned of a new $2.4 million fundraising campaign to renovate and expand the culinary arts facilities. President Dean Hollenbeck made the announcement during the live auction that will allow FHTC to help students achieve chef status.

And the donations began pouring in for the campaign during the live auction with $7,250 raised. Crouch says it's a wonderful way to kick things off.

Attendees also were able to bid on the right to be a judge during the culinary arts department's Cut Competition this fall. KVOE President Steve Sauder and wife Bobbi had the winning bid on that. Kari's Diamond's also gave away a $5,500 set of diamond stud earrings to lucky contest winner and distinguished alumni Rex Williams.

Mike Dale and the Desert Wine Band entertained guests to close out the evening.
