Motorcycle driver hurt, hospitalized after crash with car

Lyon County authorities say two people injured following a car vs. motorcycle crash in North Lyon County Friday evening are going to be alright.

The vehicles collided at the intersection of Highway 99 and Road 240 around 6:45 p.m. According to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, 37-year-old Will Symmonds riding his motorcycle southbound and was struck by a northbound passenger car driven by 22-year-old Abigail Newport of Emporia. Authorities say Newport's vehicle traveled left of center, attempting to merge onto Road L, when the crash occurred.

Symmonds was transported to Newman Regional Health by ambulance and later airlifted to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, with non-life-threatening injuries. Newport was treated and released at the scene for injuries sustained during the accident. She was wearing a seatbelt.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office reminds motorists to remain vigilant this spring with more motorcyclist and bicyclist traffic increasing. The accident remains under investigation.

8:45 p.m. Friday

A crash between a car and motorcycle Friday evening sent the cycle's driver to Newman Regional Health for treatment.

The vehicles collided at the intersection of Kansas Highway 99 and Road 240 around 6:45 pm. The car driver was not hurt.

Names have not been released. Lyon County deputies are investigating and will release additional information later.
