Road projects beginning Monday, Tuesday

The next few days will be busy for road improvements, both in and out of Emporia.

Within the city limits, three railroad crossings will be shut down all week starting Monday. Burlington Northern Santa Fe is closing the crossings at Peyton, East and Carter for various maintenance projects. The city has been advised no more than two of these crossings will be closed at the same time.

Separately, Twin Lakes Drive will be closed to all traffic just west of Twin Lakes Court beginning Tuesday. This area will be closed for about two weeks as a 16-inch raw water line is replaced. Nearby residents will have access to their driveways at all times as this is in effect.

In addition, the Kansas Turnpike Authority will close a bridge on Road 400 between Roads Y and Z for maintenance. That particular project will take about six weeks to finish.
