Madison-Virgil has its new superintendent, and Board President Jeff Williams could not sound more pleased with the selection Friday night of USD 432 Victoria junior-senior high principal Stu Moeckel for the job.

Moeckel replaces Ryan Bradbury, who is departing to be the superintendent at Wellsville. Moeckel says his rise to superintendent was a natural progression for him. He became interested in education because he wanted to be a coach, and he was able to both teach and coach before becoming a principal.

Williams credited Bradbury's leadership the last nine years, saying Moeckel has big shoes to fill. At the same time, Williams says this is a good opportunity for Moeckel to continue elevating the district.

The search took close to two months before interviews were conducted Wednesday and Thursday. Also reaching the interview stage was Dr. Paul Ogle, the superintendent and principal at Riverbend International School in Atchison.

Williams credited a number of people, including Craig Wilford from the Kansas Association of School Boards, North Lyon County Superintendent Aron Dody and Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright for their guidance as search committee members. Williams also thanked Bradbury, elementary school principal Stephen Jowers and the Madison community for their input.

Moeckel begins his new duties July 1. Contract terms have not been released.
