Despite stormy conditions, area residents flocked to Bobby D's for a good meal and a worthy cause Monday.

The first of two Tip A Cop-Tip A Deputy events took place at the restaurant. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics with the Law Enforcement Torch Run and the annual state games coming soon. Deputy and event spokesman Zach Shafer says law enforcement has been a strong supporter of Special Olympics for decades.

Law enforcement greeted customers, delivered food and cleared tables. Their efforts generated over $900, with better than $700 in tips and nearly $200 in T-shirt sales.

The next Tip A Cop-Tip A Deputy event is May 24 at Olpe Chicken House. The Law Enforcement Torch Run comes to Emporia on May 30 and goes from Emporia to El Dorado on May 31. The annual state games start June 1. For more information, go online to www.ksso.org.
