Kansas gubernatorial candidate Jim Barnett is out on the campaign trail with his running mate - wife Rosemary Hansen, a native of Americus.

Barnett, who stopped by the KVOE studios Wednesday, says while an unconventional pick, choosing one's spouse for the Republican ticket, it was perfect for their platform as non-career politicians.

Improving the functioning of state government is a key for Barnett's campaign as he looks to implement his #OneKansas agenda. Hansen has served internationally helping set up the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait following the Gulf War and developed a fully functioning U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo and Bosnia just as the war ended. She believes that management experience will translate to Kansas government.

Barnett's agenda continues to push for promoting agriculture and livestock, economic development and education, specifically in the area of career development and technical education.

Barnett and Hansen continue to tour the state and like their chances in the crowded Republican field that includes Gov. Jeff Colyer, Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Patrick Kucera, Tyler Ruzich, Ken Selzer and Joseph Tutera Jr.
