An opening will be coming later this summer to the USD 253 Emporia School Board.

During Wednesday's meeting, the board will consider the resignation of Mike Helbert, who has served for the past 11 years. Helbert, in a letter to the board, says he has "not been able to devote the time necessary to do the job effectively and has other commitments that have also resulted in time constraints." His resignation will be effective July 15.

Other items to be discussed at Wednesday's meeting include the renewal of property and casualty insurance for the 2018-19 school year, the establishment of a budget timeline as well as the publishing of a position for a Construction Manager at Risk.

One executive session is scheduled for the purpose of negotiations. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Mary Herbert Education Center.
