Fireworks-related blaze reported in Hartford KVOE News file photo

The Fourth of July wasn't festive for everybody, but by and large things went fairly smoothly across the KVOE listening area for the holiday.

Hartford-Neosho Rapids and Olpe firefighters were called out to 508 East 12th in Hartford a fireworks-related trash fire. Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Craig Andrews says a firework fell over and went into a trash pile. There were no injuries and there was no damage to any nearby houses. Emporia was initially called out as mutual aid but was canceled almost immediately.

Wednesday night's call in Hartford was apparently the only fireworks-related fire call in Lyon or surrounding counties on July 4.
