Election season means endorsement season, and Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer came to Emporia to get a relatively rare endorsement Monday.

Senate Vice President and 17th District State Senator Jeff Longbine announced his support of the Colyer campaign during an appearance at Longbine Auto Plaza. Longbine says he has been impressed with the governor's "ability to listen, serve and lead" on matters like education funding, the overall budget and staffing of key government positions.

For Colyer, Longbine's support signifies an ability of lawmakers to work with the governor to get things done.

Longbine's support came on the same day Colyer received three separate endorsements from Wichita or Sedgwick County. It also came on the heels of recent endorsements from the Kansas Farm Bureau and the Kansas State Troopers Association.

The endorsement came the day before Republican Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Colyer's main rival for the nomination, was supposed to stop at KVOE for a one-on-one interview. That has now been rescheduled to July 18. Kobach has received endorsements from rock musician Ted Nugent, TV pundit Sean Hannity and Donald Trump, Jr.
