Community members are invited to share a meal with local veterans this weekend.

The inaugural All Veterans Picnic will be taking place Sunday in the American Legion parking lot. Several local veterans groups have come together to organize the event including the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980, American Legion Post 5 and the Student Veterans Association.

VFW Post Commander and event organizer Michael White says the event is a fun way to introduce younger veterans to each of these organizations.

The event has received overwhelming support from the community including donations from Fannestil Meats, Tyson, Goods Cash Saver, J's Carryout, Hostess, the Bourbon Cowboy and several private donations from local residents. White says he expected nothing less from the Emporia community.

White adds residents do not need to bring anything for the meal but may bring soda or other drinks if they would like something other than water or lemonade. Along with the meal will be music, a bounce house, the Emporia Arts Van and a raffel.

The picnic will run from 4 pm to 7:30 pm with dinner being served from 4 to 6:30 at the American Legion Post 5 parking lot located at 2921 West 12 Street.
