Emporia Police say an early morning crash in west Emporia was the result of a pursuit.


Information released late Friday morning indicated that an officer initiated a stop on a small pickup near 18th and Industrial Road, shortly after 3 a.m. The driver did not stop and the vehicle rolled near 15th and Graphic Arts Road. The driver, 20-year-old Taylor Rich sustained minor injuries and was taken to Newman Regional Health for care and treatment.

Officers learned the truck was reported as stolen. Once Rich was released, she was taken into custody on suspicion of theft, attempt to flee and elude police, reckless driving and DUI as well as driving without lights.

Formal charges and a first court appearance are pending.

4 a.m. Friday

One person was hospitalized after a crash in west Emporia early Friday.

A pickup crashed just east of the 15th and Graphic Arts intersection shortly after 3 am, with the truck rolling over onto one side as a result. The driver was taken to Newman Regional Health for care and treatment afterward.

Access to 15th was closed off at Graphic Arts for close to an hour afterward.
