Emporia State University's Peterson Planetarium and the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve are teaming up to throw a party that's out of this world.

Residents are invited to take in the night sky with Planetarium representatives who will be on hand to help guide their tour of the stars. Interim Planetarium Director Scott Capes was a recent guest on KVOE's Newsmaker 2 segment and says due to the reduced light pollution out in the prairie, stargazers will have plenty to see.

The attendance for last year's star party was roughly 150. This year organizers anticipate having nearly 200 residents take part.

Capes adds anyone who comes to the star viewing should bring a flashlight, bug spray and water. Telescopes will be provided however, anyone who owns a telescope is welcomed to bring it with them.

Programs will begin at 6:30 in the visitors center at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve located on scenic Kansas Highway 177 in Cottonwood Falls. Buses will begin transporting stargazers to the viewing site at 7:30.
