A significant water line project begins Wednesday in southeast Emporia.

Over the next eight weeks or so, Kansas Avenue will have a 16-inch water main installed between Exchange and East. City Engineer Jim Ubert says this project will help both residential and business customers alike.

Work on Kansas Avenue from East to Penny Lane will follow as will construction on Warren Way from East Logan to East South.

As Ubert mentioned, another key component of this project is the construction of a new water tower for Industrial Park 3.

Earlier this year, city officials received a $1.3 million federal grant to help build the 1-million-gallon water tower. When that was announced in April, Congressman Roger Marshall said that could well help both business and residential development in southeast Emporia once everything was completed.
