Many will come together this week to benefit the Salvation Army of Lyon County food pantry.

Thursday marks the 17th annual KVOE Drive for Food. Captain Deb Thompson was on KVOE's Talk of Emporia Monday and highlighted the need to stock up the pantry which typically serves up to 100 families and sometimes more.

Last year's Drive for Food collected more than 31,000 items with KVOE staffers rounding up non-perishable food items across Emporia. Everything is crucial at this point from boxed cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, dry box dinners, ramen noodles and other shelf-stable foods. Thompson adds that people should also consider donating hygiene items.
