At the start of the day. the Salvation Army food pantry was just about barren. Now the facility is bursting at the seams with donations of non-perishable food and personal hygiene items -- and Emergency Services Coordinator Suzanne Worthen-Miller couldn't be more pleased.

KVOE's annual Drive for Food has already generated almost 30,350 items, with more donations to come through the weekend.

Local schools, businesses and residents once again donated products, with Boy Scout Troop 157, Thomas Transfer, Emporia State students and others donating their time to help either deliver food or pack the pantry.

KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas says Emporians made the event a success -- again.

Besides helping to feed families according to their size, Worthen-Miller says the donations will help feed people on a more regular basis. The Salvation Army used to donate food every other month, but now it hands out food on a monthly basis.

Additional donations will be coming in through the weekend, with events like the Lyon County Showdown rodeo on Saturday and Sunday also adding to the total.
