Abel Ortiz has two cases heading to trial on the same date later this month. The question now is which trial will actually begin Dec. 17 and which one will move to next year.

Ortiz faces separate but related counts. Following a hearing Wednesday in Lyon County District Court, he was set for the Dec. 17 trial date on two counts of drug distribution stemming from a pair of alleged incidents in October 2017.

Ortiz also faces a potential Dec. 17 trial on charges of aggravated failure to appear, felony interference of law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and use of drug paraphernalia after an incident at 118 Sylvan in late August. He allegedly barricaded himself into a garage and then tried unsuccessfully to leave the scene. Authorities have said they were searching for Ortiz in connection with the October 2017 case when they found him this past August.

Further details will be made known after pretrial hearings Dec. 12.
