An Emporia State University alum has donated money to create an endowed professorship and a new summer camp at the university.

Brian Tichenor, Class of 1976, and his wife, Jill, donated money to develop the James Calvert Endowed Professorship in Physical Sciences. The donation amount has not been announced.

Calvert taught physics for 31 years at ESU before retiring in 1998. In Brian Tichenor's case, Calvert guided him to take a range of engineering courses along with his physics major.

The other half of the donation creates the Physical Sciences Summer Camp Program. Tichenor credited his studies at ESU for leading to a career at NASA, including work on the Space Shuttle, International Space Station and Orion spacecraft.
